A web portal presents the file, its status and its resources. The user station has the applications and files necessary for the production work. The gateway must link these two environments with understandable actions.
Rey-Active combined a Desktop application, a connector to web applications, and a view service. This architecture allowed the functions to be distributed according to their execution context.
Prepare local files and processes
The chain included bringing together InDesign images and documents for store deliverables. Processing on the workstation had to find the resources corresponding to the folder and version used.
Technical monitoring requires distinguishing between what depends on the desktop application, a file path, a share or a remote service. This reading helps treat the cause of a blockage and get back to work in the right place.
Taking into account production uses
The position is part of a broader set: planning, time tracking, processing returns and documents in progress. The ecosystem also included a desktop timer taking over from the tracking used in 4D.
A useful interface should give a feedback on the requested action and avoid allowing the user to interpret a wait or fail alone. Context information must remain consistent with the open folder in the platform.

Rey’actif applications were generated for Windows and Mac, with a publication and version tracking system. Distribution is part of how the service works: you need to know which version is used and what dependencies it expects.
