Paris Store: maintain and take over a Joomla site

Ensuring the continuity of an existing site requires understanding the CMS, its base and its hosting. Experience in maintenance and technical support on Paris Store.

THE NEED

An existing CMS, its base and its accommodation to be understood to ensure the continuity of the site.

THE INTERVENTION

Coordination of diagnosis and interventions with developers and hosting

THE CONCRETE CONTRIBUTION

Applicative and technical support linking diagnosis, repair, operation and recovery preparation.

The situation: an existing site to be kept available

The support focused on the operation of a Joomla site and its interactions with the database and hosting. The symptoms visible to users had to be compared to their technical origin.

Patrice's role was part of coordinating the agency's interventions, with developers, hosting stakeholders and site managers.

Diagnose session operation

One development intervention concerned the CMS session table. A PHP function had been created by the team to allow a repair, with a scheduled periodic execution.

The following incidents required further analysis: the same consultation symptom could come from another problem. Monitoring could therefore not be limited to systematically repeating the first correction.

Connecting application maintenance and hosting

The technical discussions covered the return to service, the needs for updating the CMS and the conditions for resuming hosting. The responsibilities of the application, server and domain had to be distinguished.

This understanding made it possible to prepare interventions with the right contacts, while retaining the context of the operation of the site.

Support configuration changes

Changes in providers and domains also involved questions of DNS and continuity of services. A web configuration could have consequences on how to access the site and associated services.

Patrice was asked to help understand the elements of this transition and prepare the technical exchanges between the speakers.

A practice of resuming existing

This case involves the analysis of a system already in service: CMS, PHP, database and hosting. The challenge is to find the dependencies and construct an intervention adapted to the situation.

The historical visual from 2013 locates the accompanied site. The intervention presented concerns its maintenance and technical recovery with the team, without attribution of its initial design.

This case study presents the experience of Patrice Salib, founder of Dtouch, acquired at Reymann with the agency's teams and its development and production partners.
